Integrate Twilio SendGrid Notifications
Overview
You can integrate Twilio SendGrid notifications to receive email notifications whenever the status of a file Transfer changes.
Once configured, notification emails are automatically sent to the specified recipient email whenever selected events occur, such as Started, Completed, or Failed.
The overall process consists of the following steps:
① Generate an API Key → ② Verify the Sender Email → ③ Configure Notifications in the Product
Prerequisites
Before you begin, verify the following requirements.
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| SendGrid Account | A SendGrid account is required to generate an API Key and verify the sender. |
| Sender Email/Domain | Verify the email address or domain that will be used to send emails in SendGrid. |
| Network | The environment where the product is installed must allow outbound HTTPS communication to api.sendgrid.com over port 443. |
Generate an API Key
Generate an API Key with permission to send emails through SendGrid.
Step 1. Open API Keys
In the SendGrid Console, navigate to Settings → API Keys, then click Create API Key.

Step 2. Configure Permissions and Create the Key
Enter an API Key name and configure the permissions.
Following the principle of least privilege, it is recommended to select Restricted Access and grant only the Mail Send permission.
(Full Access can also be used to send emails.)
After completing the configuration, click Create & View to generate the API Key.

Step 3. Copy the API Key
Copy the API Key that begins with SG..
The API Key is displayed only once during creation, so store it securely.
Treat the API Key as a password.
Anyone with access to the API Key can send emails using the permissions granted to the account. Do not expose it in public repositories or external documentation.
If the API Key is compromised, delete the existing key in SendGrid and generate a new one.

Verification
- ✔ An API Key with Mail Send permission has been generated.
- ✔ The API Key has been copied and stored securely.
Verify the Sender Email
SendGrid allows email to be sent only from verified senders.
If an unverified sender is used, email delivery is rejected with a 403 error. Verify the sender email or domain before proceeding.
Step 1. Open Sender Authentication
In the SendGrid Console, navigate to Settings → Sender Authentication.

Step 2. Verify the Sender
Verify the sender using one of the following methods.
- Single Sender Verification — Select Create New Sender, then enter the sender name, email address, and address information. A verification email is sent. After clicking the verification link, the email address can be used for sending emails. (Recommended for development and testing environments.)
- Domain Authentication (Recommended) — Add the provided CNAME DNS records to your domain to complete verification. All email addresses under the verified domain can then be used, and email deliverability is improved by reducing the likelihood of spam classification. (Recommended for production environments.)

Verification
- ✔ The sender email address or domain has been verified.
Configure Twilio SendGrid Notifications
Enter the generated API Key and verified sender information in the product's notification settings.
When you open the Notifications configuration page, the following screen is displayed.

Step 1. Enter the API Key
Enter the API Key copied in the "Generate an API Key" section into the API Key field.
Step 2. Enter the Sender Email
Enter the verified sender email from the "Verify the Sender Email" section into the Sender Email field.
Step 3. Enter the Recipient Email
Enter the email address that will receive notifications in the Recipient Email field.
Step 4. Select Notification Events
Select the events that should trigger email notifications in the Events section.
Multiple events can be selected. Emails are sent only when the selected events occur.
| Event | Trigger |
|---|---|
| Started | When a Transfer starts |
| Completed | When a Transfer completes successfully |
| Paused | When a Transfer is paused |
| Resumed | When a paused Transfer resumes |
| Recovered | When a Transfer automatically resumes after an interruption or failure |
| Canceled | When a user cancels a Transfer |
| Failed | When a Transfer fails |
| Skipped | When a file is skipped (for example, because it already exists or matches a filter condition) |
Step 5. Save the Configuration
After entering all required information, click Add to save the integration.
Verification
- ✔ The API Key has been entered.
- ✔ The sender and recipient email addresses have been entered.
- ✔ The notification events have been selected.
Verify the Integration
Verify that the notification configuration is working correctly.
Step 1. Trigger a Test Event
Run an actual Transfer or trigger one of the selected events.

Step 2. Check the Recipient Mailbox
Verify that the notification email has been received at the configured recipient email address.

Verification
- ✔ A notification email has been received.
- ✔ The triggered event has been delivered correctly.
Configuration Complete
After the configuration is saved, the integration becomes active.
From this point forward, notification emails are automatically sent to the specified recipient email whenever the selected events occur.
Troubleshooting
If notification emails are not received, verify the following.
| Issue | Verification |
|---|---|
| Email is not sent | Verify that the API Key, sender email, and recipient email have been entered correctly. |
| Authentication error (401) | Verify that the API Key is valid and has not been deleted or regenerated. |
| Delivery rejected (403) | Verify that the sender email has been authenticated (Single Sender Verification or Domain Authentication) and that the API Key includes the Mail Send permission. |
| Email is delivered to the spam folder | Verify that Domain Authentication has been completed. |
| Integration fails in a restricted network | Verify that outbound HTTPS communication to api.sendgrid.com over port 443 is allowed by the firewall or proxy. |
