Integrate Amazon SES Notifications

Overview

You can integrate Amazon SES notifications to receive file transfer events via email.

Once the integration is complete, an email notification is automatically sent to the specified recipient whenever selected events occur, such as Started, Completed, or Failed.

The setup consists of three steps:

① Generate AWS credentials → ② Verify the sender email address → ③ Configure notification settings in the product

Prerequisites

Before you begin, verify the following requirements.

ItemDescription
AWS AccountAn AWS account with access to Amazon SES and IAM is required.
Sender Email Address / DomainThe email address or domain used as the sender must be verified in Amazon SES.
AWS RegionDetermine the AWS Region where Amazon SES will be used. The same Region must be used for sender verification.
NetworkThe environment where the product is installed must allow outbound HTTPS (443) access to email.<region>.amazonaws.com.

Generate AWS Credentials (Access Key)

To send email through Amazon SES, you need AWS credentials (Access Key ID and Secret Access Key) with permission to send email using Amazon SES.

Create an IAM user and generate an access key.

Step 1. Create or Select an IAM User

In the AWS Console, navigate to IAM → Users.

Create a new IAM user or select an existing one.

Attach a policy that includes Amazon SES sending permissions (ses:SendEmail and ses:SendRawEmail), or attach the AmazonSESFullAccess policy.

For production environments, it is recommended to follow the principle of least privilege by granting only the permissions required.

Step 2. Create an Access Key

Open the user's Security credentials tab.

Select Create access key.

For the use case, choose Application running outside AWS, then create the access key.

Step 3. Copy the Access Key ID and Secret Access Key

Copy the generated Access Key ID and Secret Access Key.

The Secret Access Key is displayed only once during creation. Store it securely.

These credentials should be treated like a password and must never be exposed publicly.

If the credentials are compromised, deactivate or delete the access key in IAM and generate a new one.

Verification

  • ✔ Amazon SES sending permissions have been granted.
  • ✔ The Access Key ID and Secret Access Key have been copied.

Verify the Sender Email Address

Amazon SES allows only verified email addresses or domains to be used as senders.

Step 1. Select the AWS Region

In the Amazon SES Console, select the Region you will use.

Example:

text
1
us-east-1

Sender verification and email delivery must both be performed in the same Region.

Step 2. Verify the Sender Email Address

In the Amazon SES Console, navigate to Identities → Create identity.

Register the email address or domain that will be used as the sender and complete the verification process.

  • For email verification, click the verification link sent to the email address.
  • For domain verification, add the required DNS records.

Step 3. Check Sandbox Status

New Amazon SES accounts are placed in Sandbox mode by default.

Sandbox mode has the following limitations:

  • Email can be sent only to verified recipients.
  • Maximum of 200 emails per day.
  • Maximum sending rate of 1 email per second.

To send email to general recipients in a production environment, submit a Request production access to remove the Sandbox restrictions.

6_6

Verification

  • ✔ The AWS Region has been confirmed.
  • ✔ The sender email address (or domain) has been verified.
  • ✔ Sandbox status and sending requirements have been confirmed.

Configure Amazon SES Notifications

Enter your AWS credentials and verified email information into the product notification settings.

Open the Notifications settings page.

6_7

Step 1. Enter the Access Key

Enter the Access Key ID created in the "Generate AWS Credentials (Access Key)" section into the Access Key field.

Step 2. Enter the Secret Key

Enter the Secret Access Key created in the "Generate AWS Credentials (Access Key)" section into the Secret Key field.

Step 3. Enter the Region

Enter the AWS Region selected in the "Verify the Sender Email Address" section.

Example:

text
1
us-east-1

The Region must match the Region where the sender email address was verified.

Step 4. Enter the From Email

Enter the verified sender email address into the From Email field.

Step 5. Enter the To Email

Enter the recipient email address into the To Email field.

If your Amazon SES account is still in Sandbox mode, this email address must also be verified.

Step 6. Select Notification Events

Select the events that should trigger email notifications.

You can select multiple events. Email notifications are sent only when one of the selected events occurs.

EventTrigger
StartedWhen a file transfer starts
CompletedWhen a file transfer completes successfully
PausedWhen a transfer is paused
ResumedWhen a paused transfer resumes
RecoveredWhen a transfer automatically recovers after an interruption or error
CanceledWhen a transfer is canceled by the user
FailedWhen a transfer fails
SkippedWhen a file is skipped (for example, because it already exists or matches a filter rule)

Step 7. Save the Configuration

Click Add to save the integration.

Verification

  • ✔ The Access Key and Secret Key have been entered.
  • ✔ The Region and sender/recipient email addresses have been entered.
  • ✔ The notification events have been selected.

Verify the Integration

Verify that the integration is working correctly.

Step 1. Trigger a Test Event

Start an actual file transfer or trigger one of the selected notification events.

6_8

Step 2. Check the Recipient Mailbox

Confirm that an email notification has been received at the configured email address.

6_9

Verification

  • ✔ The notification email has been received.
  • ✔ The event information has been delivered correctly.

Configuration Complete

Once the configuration is saved, the integration becomes active.

From this point forward, an email notification is automatically sent to the configured recipient whenever one of the selected events occurs.

Troubleshooting

If email notifications are not received, verify the following items.

IssueCheck
Email is not sentVerify that the Access Key, Secret Key, Region, sender email address, and recipient email address are entered correctly.
Email address is not verifiedVerify that the sender email address (and the recipient email address if the account is in Sandbox mode) has been verified in the selected Region.
Region mismatchVerify that the configured Region matches the Region where the sender email address was verified.
Email cannot be sent to general recipientsVerify whether the Amazon SES account is still in Sandbox mode. If necessary, request Production Access.
AccessDenied errorVerify that the IAM user has the ses:SendEmail and ses:SendRawEmail permissions.
Notification delivery fails in a restricted networkEnsure that outbound HTTPS (443) access to email.<region>.amazonaws.com is allowed through the firewall or proxy.
