Browse and transfer files on a remote computer from your phone

You do not have to be sitting at your office PC to browse its folders and send a file to another device. Pick a device and a file you have access to in INNORIX Aero and the file moves between the connected devices, with no need to download it to your phone and upload it again. Once the transfer starts, you follow its progress and its result from mobile.

How it is built

  1. Connect the remote computer and the target device.

Install and register a supported INNORIX Agent on the office PC and on the device that will receive the files, and confirm both are online and can reach the folders you need.

  2. Open Aero on mobile.

Sign in with an account that has the right permissions and pick the remote computer from the list of connected devices. The initial connection and authentication follow the procedure in the mobile app as shipped.

  3. Browse the files on the remote computer.

Open the file explorer for that device, move through the folders and select the files to transfer, using the selection method the mobile screen supports.

  4. Set the device and the path to send to.

Choose the target device and folder, check any storage rules or collision handling options you need, and start the transfer.

  5. Check the result in Activity.

Follow the state of the running transfer and, once it completes, verify the file arrived on the target device. If a device is offline or you lack permission, check that state and resolve the connection or permission problem first.

Where it is used

  • Sending office material while out on a visit

When the proposal you need in a site meeting is on your office PC, find the file from mobile and transfer it to another work server at the company. This is distinct from issuing a web download link to an individual recipient.

  • Urgent server-to-server moves while travelling

When opening a laptop is not practical, check a file on a work server from mobile and transfer it to a nominated folder on another approved server.

  • Delivering output from a shoot

Select photo and video originals held on the on-site PC from mobile and transfer them to the edit suite workstation or an archive server. Large originals are never copied onto phone storage.

  • Checking material across sites

A head office owner reviews the folders on a branch device from mobile and moves only the reports they need to the central server.

  • Retrieving data from remote lab equipment

Measurement results produced on a lab PC are found from mobile and sent to the analysis server. Access to the devices and paths is set up in advance.

  • Checking a running transfer on the move

The progress of a device-to-device transfer started at the office is checked in mobile Activity, and if it stops or fails the owner decides what to do next.

Usage guides

Frequently asked questions

Is there a way to open files on my office PC from a phone and send them to another computer?

INNORIX Aero provides an experience for browsing files on connected devices from mobile and for running and following device-to-device transfers. The remote PC and the target device have to be registered with INNORIX, with the access rights and the connection state in place.

Do I have to download a file to my phone first to transfer it from a remote PC?

No. The device-to-device transfer in this guide uses mobile as the control screen and is composed so the file moves between the source and target devices. Phone storage does not have to serve as an intermediate holding place.

Does it work on both Android and iPhone?

Which mobile platforms are available and in what form has to be confirmed against the shipping version of Aero and its supported OS policy. This guide does not guarantee an app store release on a particular operating system or feature parity between them.

Can I fetch files from mobile if the office PC is turned off or asleep?

If the source device is offline or its files cannot be reached, browsing and transferring are not possible at that moment. Wake-on-LAN or sleep control needs separate supporting conditions and is not assumed to be a default feature.

Can I see every file on the remote PC from mobile?

No. What you can browse is limited by the permissions on the account you sign in with, the devices registered, the paths you can reach and the file system permissions on that PC. Folders you have no rights to, and files belonging to other users, are not reachable automatically.

Can large files be transferred between remote computers from mobile?

A device-to-device transfer uses the transfer engines on the source and target devices, so it is not a method bounded directly by the storage capacity of the phone. The sizes and the performance actually achievable have to be verified against your product configuration, storage, network and usage policy.

Does closing the mobile app stop a transfer that has already started?

Where a device-to-device transfer runs on the source and target devices, keeping the mobile screen open is not a requirement of the transfer. How execution and notifications are handled when the mobile session ends, though, has to be confirmed on the Aero version you run.

Can I share a file I found on mobile with an external customer as a download link?

This guide covers transfers between registered devices. Web upload and download for external users is a separate area belonging to INNORIX EX, and no capability to issue arbitrary public download links from Aero is assumed.
